Transit Workers Denied Religious Exemption For COVID Vaccine Receive Massive Payout

San Francisco transit workers who were fired for refusing to comply with COVID-19 vaccine mandates will receive significant settlements of $1.3 million each. This development not only brings attention to the ongoing fallout from the vaccine mandates but underscores the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party’s claims of championing “bodily autonomy.”

For years, Democrats have positioned themselves as defenders of personal choice and bodily autonomy when it comes to abortion, insisting that the government shouldn’t be involved in intimate health decisions. Recently, actress and Democratic activist Julia Louis-Dreyfus said “Donald Trump and his merry band of yes men are obsessed with what we women do with our bodies. They want to reach into our doctor’s offices…” she then went to talk about “reproductive freedom” and how Kamala Harris would protect them, before saying, “I don’t know about you, but I’d really like to get the government out of my f***ing snatch.”

Apparently, that same logic doesn’t apply to blood streams.

During the COVID-19, Democrats championed strict, invasive vaccination requirements, making few exceptions for those with religious or philosophical objections. The irony is striking: while branding itself as the party of bodily autonomy and workers rights, the same party denied many their right to work based on sincerely held beliefs about what they put into their bodies.

The lawsuit explains, “Exclusion of religious people from the enjoyment of a right stands in violation of the First Amendment’s religion clauses and federal and state anti-discrimination in employment laws. 109 employees’ requests for religious exemption were denied.”

Lead trial attorney Kevin Snyder said, “The rail employees chose to lose their livelihood rather than deny their faith. That in itself shows the sincerity and depth of their convictions. After nearly three years of struggle, these essential workers feel they were heard and understood by the jury and are overjoyed and relieved by the verdict.”

The case of the transit workers exposes the hollow principles of the Democratic Party, as they only value an individual’s right to make decisions about their bodies without interference of the government when it’s politically convenient. Instead of respecting their autonomy, the Democratic leadership opted for mandates that resulted in job losses and significant economic consequences for those who chose not to comply. The settlements now being awarded are a small step in the right direction, rectifying constitutional violations and unjust treatment.

Many Americans are increasingly frustrated with a political landscape that belittles and dismisses individual rights, while growing the power of government with little accountability and reducing checks and balances. The Biden-Harris administration famously mandated COVID vaccines for businesses with 100 or more employees, taking a dark and threatening tone, warning unvaccinated Americans of a “winter of death.” Vaccine mandates were met with significant resistance, particularly from religious communities that felt marginalized.

The Democratic Party appears willing to sacrifice individual rights for perceived public health benefits, even when those public health benefits were under dispute within the medical community. This set a precedent for government overreach, and this may be one of many cases to come, where companies and government officials are forced to reconcile for their authoritarian demands.
