A plane crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport in rural North Carolina on Thursday morning, erupting into a large fire on the runway, according to breaking news reports.
Around 10:15 a.m., an aircraft crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport, they confirmed in a post on their Facebook page.
The Federal Aviation Administration is “en route” and will be investigating the incident. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the investigation alongside the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. They described the aircraft as a small passenger jet.
The plane that crashed appears to be a Cessna Citation that is owned by the semi-retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, according to FAA paperwork. It is unclear who was aboard the plane at this time or the condition of any passengers.
