Louisiana Democrats Side With Republicans To Advance Constitutional Carry

-

A handful of Democrats have sided with Republicans to advance pro- legislation in the state of .

House Bill 131 aims to remove the requirement for residents to obtain a permit, undergo background checks, and receive training in order to carry concealed weapons.

Supporters of the bill argued that it upholds Second Amendment rights and allows law-abiding citizens to protect themselves without unnecessary government interference. They believe that responsible gun owners should not be burdened with permits and fees.

Those opposing the legislation expressed concerns about the potential risks and dangers associated with permitless carry – as has become commonplace in the anti-gun community – they spread the message that eliminating requirements that exist may make it easier for individuals with malicious intent to obtain and carry firearms.

Democrat support for the bill is a welcome sign for Republicans, as the state's Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards is likely to veto the legislation if it gets to his desk. The bill passed the House by a vote of 71-29 on May 23rd of this year, and the Senate Judiciary B committee passed it with a vote of 4-1. If the full Senate body also passes the legislation in a bipartisan manner, the possibility of a veto over ride remains on the table.

  1. Once again, law abiding citizens have to jump through hoops to justify their G-d given right to own, carry (anywhere), protect themselves with a gun. Criminals do not follow the law and carry and use guns illegally. The DemoRats need to be voted out of office. But, then again, most politicians do not care about good law abiding citizens since they have armed security details.
