Ricky Gervais Tells Audience How He Would’ve Handled Will and Jada Pinkett Smith

-

Never shy or star struck, comedian told fans in London how he would've addressed and his wife, if the Academy had chosen him to host the Oscars.

The comedian, famous for roasting celebrities, said he would not have joked about Jada's hair. Instead, he would have made jokes about Jada's “boyfriend.”

The Mirror reports:

Will and Jada made headlines in June 2020 when August Alsina claimed that he was in a relationship with Jada, who later confirmed that they had been in an “entanglement”.

Many viewers were quick to draw parallels with Gervais who routinely “roasted” celebs while hosting the Golden Globes five times.

And Gervais joked that he might rename his tour in honour of the Oscars spat.

“This new material is going to be for my new show called Armageddon. I might change that to Alopecia,” he said.

The British funnyman and co-creator of “The Office,” mused about how he trended on Twitter after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about her shaved head.

It, of course, had to do with Gervais' previous hosting duties at the Golden Globes. Between 2010 and 2020, Gervais hosted the award show five times. Gervais has never thought highly of the fakeness of celebrities, but his relationship with the organizers of the awards ceremony became particularly rocky after the show's 2020 opening monologue.

Reflecting on his hosting duties, Gervais said he had to ask himself, “Do I pander to the 200 egos in the room or the 200 million watching? And there's no contest.”

After last Sunday's ceremony, Gervais tweeted a scathing would-be monologue he would've used if he were the host.
