Another deranged gunman stunned America yesterday when he fired on a crowd at a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb.
Authorities say that Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, 22, killed six parade-goers and wounded over 30 with his indiscriminate gunfire that echoed through downtown Highland Park, Illinois.
After several hours of residents on edge, police announced they had apprehended Crimo.
By then, journalists had begun browsing Crimo’s violent and disturbing social media history, including one video reenacting a school shooting.

Crimo’s attack will no doubt renew the debate about so-called “red flag” laws and what can be done about people who openly provide all sorts of indications that they may become dangerously violent. The shooter’s rap videos seemed to show all of the signs you would expect. One of them depicted a mass shooting at a school while another featured a cartoon version of Crimo being killed in a standoff with law enforcement.
The alleged shooter did more than post rap videos, however. He hosted a Discord channel where his “fans” would engage in discussions of violence and mass shootings. Crimo frequently posted on topics including death, murder, and suicide. He rarely posted about politics, but there were allegedly a couple of photos and videos suggesting he was a fan of Donald Trump.
It would seem that all of the signals were there and had been for several months at least. But what, if anything, could anyone have done to stop him? Thus far, the only thing officials are saying is that Crimo was “known to law enforcement.” But there is no confirmation that he had a criminal record that would have prevented him from purchasing a firearm, though that may come to light later. We also don’t know if he even legally owned the rifle that was recovered from the scene of the shooting.
Let’s assume for the moment that Crimo had not yet been convicted of any crimes serious enough to cause him to fail a background check. Would his rap videos have been sufficient cause for the police to come to disarm him? While investigating unrelated stories in the past, I’ve had cause to peruse some of the more violent rap videos that are constantly making the rounds. Many of them openly lionize the idea of shooting the police, rival gang members, or simply random pedestrians. Can you imagine what would happen if the police began randomly showing up and searching all of those rappers for weapons, particularly when the majority of the singers are Black? The moral outrage would come in a fast and furious fashion.

They just had to get a dig in about Donald Trump. I would like to see that as President Trump is for tough on crime and prison for offenders. Mental health care is primary but ignored. Social media and juvenile records should be opened for background checks.
I read that under the photo of Trump, he wrote SPAM so that would indicate that he OPPOSES Trump; not supports him!

I’m getting damn tired of the same thing. These recent NUTJOBS were known by police, fbi,doj, all of them, yet no one does a damn thing about it. Some group is tuning these sleepers on. This is their final push to take the weapons from law abiding citizens.

Next avoided question. Was he on any meds like anti depressants that have warnings on the bottle to contact your doctor if you have visions of murder or suicide?? And some of us are catching on that all these laws just disarm the populis while the creators hide behind their armed guards. But it wont stop and every incident will be another opportunity to attack your ability to defend yourself. Don’t recall a peep from these legislators during the organized riots. Thats because their masters want to be able to threaten and intimidate with abandon and theirs deeds go unchecked.
Well, you hamstring the Police by suing them, even imprisoning them for enforcing the law, cripple them with reams of crackpot regulations to protect ‘the poor criminal’… and then do the math. First of all, what about the poor victims? And finally, who will want to serve the public by enforcing the Law of the Land? Sure, there are some bad policemen. But there are some bad dry cleaners, garbage collectors, dentists and ophthalmologists, too. But ALL these professions are necessary to society.
Children begin school at 5 and odd, disruptive, secretive etc behaviors are usually noticed by any normal teacher. Test these children with parents permission and honestly offer love, interest and therapy if agreed. Seek to find real cause such as morbid home life! Same kids at 10 who may still show unwanted behaviors, again, with parents permission, can be tested and offered behavioral help. At 15 if enough honest concern and help has been offered since 5 they hopefully will be aware of conditions that caused irrational behavior.and have been able to change for a better life. As a teacher I noticed this.
Nothing new here. (independent.org/news/article.asp?id=2472) The vast majority of homicides are committed by perps “known to the police,” i.e., previously convicted felons, most of the rest by mental cases. Yet politicians insist on passing laws that primarily interfere with citizens’ 2 amendment rights, intent on disarming “we, the people.”
