Trump Sues Hillary and DNC for $72 Million Over Russian Collusion Allegations

-

Former President is suing , the Democratic National Committee and others for allegedly conspiring to promote the false narrative that he colluded with Russia.

Trump filed the lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida five years after the supposed plot.

CNBC's Dan Mangan explains:

Trump's RICO suit says that Clinton, who was his Democratic opponent in that election, and other defendants as part of the purported scheme falsified evidence, deceived authorities and exploited access to “highly-sensitive data sources” in a way that “even the events of Watergate pale in comparison.”

The lawsuit seeks $72 million in damages, which is three times the amount in legal fees and other expenses Trump incurred fighting the charges.

Mangan adds:

Trump's suit says that while the scheme was designed to “rig” the 2016 election, “When their gambit failed, and Donald J. Trump was elected, the Defendants' efforts continued unabated, merely shifting their focus to undermining his presidential administration.”

The suit alleges violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, conspiracy, injurious falsehood, malicious prosecution, computer fraud and abuse, theft of trade secrets, and other claims.

The lawsuit comes three years after then-special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation uncovered that Russia attempted to interfere in the election but found no proof Trump was involved.

The 108-page lawsuit is a compilation of Trump's biggest grievances with Hillary Clinton and other figures who've allegedly wronged him.

Other defendants in the suit include Marc Elias, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, John Podesta, Christopher Steele, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Andrew McCabe.
